The Balearic Islands are a group of islands located off the eastern coast of mainland Spain in the warm waters of the Mediterranean Sea. The largest of the islands that make up the Balearics are Majorca, Ibiza, Menorca and Formentera. In total there are 151 islands which make up the Balearics, the majority of which are uninhabited. The Balearics are one of Spains’ Autonomous or self governing Communities, the capital being the city of Palma de Mallorca located on the island of Mallorca. The Balearic island currency is the Euro (€).

The Balearic Islands as a holiday destination

Balearic Island Gastronomy
The cuisine of the Balearic Islands, because of fishing industry and seasonal crops, is very rich and varied. Enjoy the typical caldereta de llagosta , a Minorcan lobster speciality, oliaigua amb figues (figs), coques (made of vegetables or trempó , etc)or the formatjades of Easter. Ibiza has flaó (cheese with herbs), and Formentera a delicious fish salad. These are just some of the culinary delights to experiment when you visit the Balearic Archipelago.
